With the appropriate care, a tooth which has had Root Canal Therapy should last as long as other natural teeth. Yet, a tooth that has received treatment may fail to heal or pain may continue to exist. Sometimes, the pain may occur months or years after treatment. If so, Endodontic Re-treatment may be needed.
While we may not be able to confirm the exact origin of the problem, re-treatment by an endodontist utilizing modern technology will often allow for elimination and resolution of the problem, resulting in healing.
Once re-treatment has been selected as a solution to the problem, we will reopen your tooth to gain access to the root canal filling material. The restorative material will be removed to enable access to the root canal. We will then clean the canals and carefully examine the inside of the problematic tooth. Once cleaned, we will fill and seal the canals and place a filling in the tooth.
If you have not received a permanent filling in your tooth, you will need to return to your dentist as soon as possible for a new crown or permanent filling, in order to restore full functionality.
